More About Individual Therapy
Our primary goal is to help clients improve their mood and life satisfaction for the long-term. We typically do this using cognitive behavioral therapy. We work together to understand precursors to low or anxious moods, minimize habits and thoughts that collude with symptoms (e.g., self-judgment about feeling bad), and implement strategies to improve wellbeing. This process should gradually help clients to feel better or develop insights into any roadblocks holding them back.
We aim to identify the root cause of clients’ struggles, which should lead to sustained wellbeing or “rooted wellness.” We use psychodynamic techniques to help clients break unhelpful patterns about how they see themselves and relate to others. We also can explore the impact of family systems, the political climate, discrimination, gender roles, and workplace dynamics on wellbeing. It can be freeing for a client to recognize that they are not individually responsible for all their struggles. Clients can learn how to navigate systems, environments, and relationships that are not serving them, and may emerge with a more firmly grounded sense of wellbeing.
We champion clients so that they can thrive or, as our motto states, we help “wellness to blossom.” For example, some clients may benefit from connecting or reconnecting with their inspiration, embracing their idiosyncrasies as authentic parts of themselves, or expressing themselves creatively.
For clients who are interested, we can weave holistic healing practices into evidence-based approaches, such as mindfulness techniques, exercises to help clients connect or reconnect with their authentic inner voice, and rituals to help clients release stuck emotions. These practices enable clients to benefit from both Eastern and Western approaches to wellbeing.
