About Dr. Hedrick (she/her)

Dr. Hedrick, JD, PhD, is a licensed clinical psychologist, former civil rights attorney for the United States Department of Justice, and the founder of Arlington Rooted Wellness LLC. She offers individual therapy via telehealth to help individuals ages 17 and up with depression, anxiety, trauma, major life transitions, identity exploration, and burnout. Dr. Hedrick’s approach is warm, culturally informed, and creative. As needed, she weaves holistic healing practices, such as mindfulness techniques, into evidence-based approaches.

Dr. Hedrick is licensed in Virginia and received Authority to Practice Interjurisdictional Telepsychology through the PSYPACT Commission in: Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, the District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, North Carolina, North Dakota, the Northern Mariana Islands, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and Wyoming.

As a Harvard Law School graduate and former trial attorney, Dr. Hedrick is uniquely qualified to help attorneys and other busy professionals manage stress and burnout that contribute to mental health issues. She provides affirming care for members of the LGBTQIA+ community and individuals from diverse populations. As a former civil rights attorney, Dr. Hedrick has a deep understanding of the role of stigma and discrimination in creating distress.

Dr. Hedrick’s therapeutic approach combines cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) with psychodynamic therapy to provide a personalized experience that focuses on immediate symptom relief while addressing the underlying cause of the problem.

Dr. Hedrick graduated from Harvard Law School in 2003 and dedicated her 13-year legal career to serving marginalized communities. She began her work as an attorney as a federal, district law clerk and a Skadden Fellow. Dr. Hedrick then served as an associate at Arnold & Porter Kaye Scholer LLP. Dr. Hedrick spent nine years as a civil rights attorney for the United States Department of Justice. Her legal background provides her with a nuanced understanding of workplace stress, burnout, ethical pressure, identity concerns, and the emotional toll of fast-paced work environments. 

Dr. Hedrick studied clinical psychology at George Washington University, earning her master’s degree in 2020 and PhD in 2023. As part of her studies, Dr. Hedrick trained at the United States Department of Veterans Affairs, where she provided individual and group therapy to veterans with serious mental illness and piloted a mindfulness therapy group for veterans. Dr. Hedrick also has experience working with college and graduate students through her training at George Mason University’s office for Counseling and Psychological Services. As a foundation for her ability to offer holistic health services, Dr. Hedrick trained at the University of Massachusetts Medical School’s Center for Mindfulness and became certified as an introduction to mindfulness instructor in 2018.
